2 Ways to Art Prints!!!

Yes!!!  I’m offering prints of my paintings!  Whether it’s a signed, limited edition from Amy Ferrari Art,  or, a fine art print from Fine Art America, buying prints is an economical and versatile way to display my images.

Amy Ferrari Art Logo

Perhaps best way to purchase one of my prints is to purchase one of my artist-signed limited edition archival prints produced by Amy Ferrari Art.

I am happy to set-up any of my painting images in a limited edition print if it isn’t already offered for sale in my  Buy Original Art!  Store.  If properly handled and displayed behind UV glass, these prints will remain pristine for a lifetime.  The fact that these prints are produced and signed by the artist (me!) contributes to their ability to retain value over time. The only drawback is the size limitation of our Epson archival printer.  The largest print I can offer is not much larger than a 8 x 10.  For more details about my original archival prints,  click here!

Perhaps the most versatile way to purchase one of my prints is to purchase an Amy Ferrari Art print from a quality print-on-demand provider.  Like countless other artists, I have chosen  Fine Art America  to produce my unsigned and unlimited print editions.

•   they have a good user interface
•   they have a good reputation

The Facebook Plug-in allows purchases to be made from the Amy Ferrari Art Facebook Page!   All you have to do is click on the ‘Shop‘ tab at the top of the page.  Please be aware that all prices are listed in Canadian Dollars!

Art of Where

Art of Where is a Montreal-Based Canadian company specializing in creating unique apparel from custom printed fabrics.  I’m so excited about this company because their high quality sublimation printing process allows for the art to be imprinted on the entire piece, not just sections of it.  And the flexibility of their online design tool allows for many versions of a single item from just one image file.  The variations are too much fun to come up with!  So far, I have chosen to focus my designs on:

•Leggings and Capris   Are you funky enough for these leggings?!  Oh My!
•Scarves   For when you need that extra pop of color!
•Skirts   Are the skirts tamer than the leggings?  Hard to say….!
•Beanie hats.   So cute!  These beanies come with a choice of linings.

If you can’t find the item you’d like imprinted with the image you’d like, please let me know, and I’ll do all I can to make the item/image combination available.

Blurb

Blurb is specifically dedicated to the on-demand publishing of books.

I wrote a book!  Well, actually, I just wrote silly poems to accompany my Snarkle Tart images, and turned it into a photo book!   Hopefully, you enjoy fart humour….

A Big Number 2‘ features my Snarkle Tart characters presenting different ways to talk about poo’s.  The characters are captivatingly cute; and the poems that accompany each image will make you snicker!

So far, I only have one physical book version (softcover) available for printing on demand. ‘A Big Number 2‘ is also available in both iPad and PDF e-formats.

I have ordered and received all 3 versions,  and I certainly recommend them all!

Visual Art and American Idol

Though many people, and understandably, scoff at the reality TV show, American Idol, it is one of my favourites, and I watch it religiously.  I know there are many aspects of the show, like any reality show, that are not exactly truthful; but…

The part of American Idol I love is the blossoming of the young contestants.  From the very first auditions to the final hyped-up live shows, what I get to see every week is the power that can come from believing in yourself.

As well, the show’s judges use compassionate constructive criticism to help the singers improve and grow as artists.  The things the judges repeatedly say to the singers are things that can apply to visual artists, as well as any creative field.

Here’s some of the advice given by the judges, with my interpretations as they may apply to visual art….

Connect with your audience
Make yourself available to viewers of your work – attend your exhibitions with the willingness speak with anyone and everyone about your work.

Be yourself, don’t try to mimic others
This one’s self-evident!

Show enthusiasm!
On and Off the canvas.

Understand the meaning of the song
You’ll be more successful getting your meaning across if you know what your meaning is.

Take charge of the stage
Take charge of the picture plane – utilize the principles of good composition!

Save something for later
Allow your piece the ability to let the viewer to look and explore, and then be rewarded for their attention.

Tell a story
You’ll likely have a more compelling piece if it can tell a story, or at least if you can tell a story about it.

Have fun with it
Remember why you create in the first place… it’s fun!

Don’t overthink it – get out of your head
While it’s good to know the ‘rules’, being able to let your intuition flow and connect to your emotions as you create is more important.

Push yourself to try new things
If you’re not learning and growing, you’re stagnating.

Make me believe you
If you don’t believe your painting, why should I?

Don’t scream at me when you’re singing
Paintings can scream too.  Most people don’t want to be screamed at.
If your piece is too loud, unsettling, or  over-bearing, most people won’t bother to look at it.

Singing with passion can be more important than singing in tune
The ability to execute your idea flawlessly isn’t as important as being able to get your idea across in the first place.  With time and practice, and attention, you’ll eventually gain proficiency enough to do your ideas sufficient justice.

Don’t sing off tune
Take time to learn and become proficient in your craft.

Choose songs that are in your ‘wheelhouse’
Know what your natural artistic strengths are, and utilize them as much as possible.

Don’t forget the words
When conveying something specific, don’t forget to observe and determine the essential aspects of what you’re trying to convey.

Be bold
Just because no one else is doing it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

Be creative, make it your own
No matter how prescriptive a painting may seem, there’s always room to add originality and the unexpected.

Know who you are
If you don’t know what you are about, it might be very difficult to know what your art should be about.

Show your confidence and conviction
You’ve done your due diligence, and developed your craft. Your work is wonderful.  Don’t be afraid to show how much you value your work.

Don’t be afraid to show who you are
No one else can come close to creating the unique way that you create.  Celebrate your individuality!

Finding A New Direction…

I am so happy to present a new painting that is now available!  This piece was based on a photo of a white rose.

PondeRoseprnt
PonderRose    30 x 40    $900.00

When I created PondeRose, I thought I was planning to pursue a new direction for a new collection of work.  I thought this new collection was going to be based on the ideas of expansiveness, quietude, and a Zen-like peacefulness.

Because my mind-space was so cluttered with gallery business and other projects, I felt like I needed the relief of some big stretches of space.  But now that my mind-space is much less cluttered, my outlook for my new work seems to want to be somewhat more exuberant than PoderRose.

With the coming of a new year, I finally have a chance to delve deep into my painting, and work on building a new collection of work!  The purpose of my journey is to explore and develop some totally new ideas and bold directions, and I’m so happy to have an unfettered expanse of time to do it.  At least for the near future, I am continuing to suspend teaching regular classes at Button Factory Arts (though I may sneak in a workshop here and there!) and auspiciously, I am no longer a member at Art District Gallery.  I’ve also embraced the recent move of my studio from Button Factory Arts to my basement.  All of this also means that I will be missing all of my friends from ADG and BFA for a while…  but that doesn’t mean I won’t be back again in the future.  🙂    I am so looking forward to seeing what develops in 2016!

And… to be sure… I’m still accepting commissions, selling my work, and coming up with more ideas for sharing my work!

Alternate Ways to Buy Art… At the Art District Gallery

Well, it’s true.  Original Art is a luxury item.  The painting you truly love could take a big chunk out of your rent or mortgage payment, and it could seriously put a dent in your cash flow.

Buying art is serious business.  It’s a big decision and a big commitment. The art you buy is likely going to be with you for a very long time, and perhaps will be passed on to your kids or even your grand-kids.  It’s personal.  And potentially a key factor in creating a joyful environment that you love.

So how to get around the cost factor??

Available
About to Sprout

Well, first, there’s payments.  Most artists, including myself, will happily arrange for you to purchase their work in instalments.  $500.00 in one payment could be daunting, but $50 a month for 10 months is totally do-able!

Another option would be renting.  Did you know you can rent art?  Many galleries, including the Art District Gallery in Kitchener, will rent you art.  In the case of Art District Gallery, all you have to do is agree to pay a minimum of three monthly fees at 4% of the purchase price of the art.  For example, a painting that costs $500 could be rented for 3 months for $60; and after 3 months, it would be a monthly payment of $20 for as long as you’d like to rent the art.  And if you rent the piece long enough, you can end up purchasing the piece.  Renting is a great option, because you have the opportunity to live with the work, and make sure it’s a good fit for you and your environment.

Yet another option can be a pooling of monies.  It’s a novel concept, sharing a work of art, but it does happen.  One year at one person’s home, the next year at another’s; alternating between two people.  Another scenario for a pooling of money would be co-workers contributing to the purchase of a piece of art for the work environment.  A more likely version of pooling money involves gift certificates.  A person buys a gift certificate for art to give to the art lover they love.  The recipient of the gift certificate is able to apply the value of the gift certificate to the payment of the piece of art of their choosing.  And, as you might guess, Gift certificates are available at the Art District Gallery!

Finally, you may consider purchasing small.  While small works may not have the impact that larger works have, the right piece could do more for your environment than you’d imagine!  Most homes have a host of small spaces that need brightening.  And smaller works of art are generally very affordable!  Coincidentally, the Art District Gallery is going to be featuring smaller works at the upcoming show that kicks off on Thursday, December 3rd.

So if you happen to be in downtown Kitchener, near the Farmer’s Market, please take a moment to mosey over to the Art District Gallery.  We’re located just off the plaza in front of the Farmer’s Market at King Street and Cedar in Kitchener.  We’d love to see you!

Thanks Kitchener!

A heartfelt thanks to the people of Kitchener for helping me paint 105 tiles at the 2015 Maker Expo!

IMG_20150919_133617

Even during the wind and rain, participants of all ages stopped by my Crowd Painting booth to paint a tile via the paint-by-numbers method, and made it a success!  And major thanks to KW’s KWARTZ Lab for making it happen!

IMG_1716 The drying table.

The design of the robot was a collaborative effort between myself and my Marco.  Who can resist a good old-fashioned robot!  This robot’s name is KWARTZ-Bot in honour of KWARZ Lab, and he’s somewhat taunting everyone to MAKE stuff!  The 1’s and 0’s spell out ‘KWARZ’ in binary code.  There are 3 giant USB ports just above the legs, and a circuit board mid-section – just in case it’s not apparent from the picture.

IMG_20150919_164419

What a great day for robot battles and so many exhibits!  If you’ve never been to Maker events before, it’s well worth going just to see all the robots and the cool stuff people can make as technology becomes more and more accessible.  It’s also fun and educational for kids!

Special thanks to Doug, Kerri, Brett, Madelaine, Deborah, Matt, Jennifer, Wendy, and of course, Marco, for all your extra help and support!  🙂

Public Painting Project at the Maker Expo!

I’m very happy to announce that I’m doing another public art project!

Tomorrow – Saturday the 19th – I will be at Kitchener City Hall from 10am to 6pm presiding over another paint-by-number tiling project.  My public art project is brought to you by KWARTZ Lab Maker Space, and is a small part of Waterloo Region’s Maker Expo.  It should be a most interesting collection of exhibitors and all kinds of creative goodness!

Now, last time I did a paint-by-number tiling project, the piece was based on one of my paintings of tulips.  This time, the image is quite different, and is based on…..  well…. you’re just going to come out and see for yourself!!

photo 5

Below is a pic of me working on preparing the tiles… we’re really going to need some public participation to paint all 105 tiles, completing a sizeable 4ft by 8ft painting!
